By way of introduction, we are Barbara and Darrell Bahr, owners and operators of FalconQuest. We bought the farm where Darrell grew up after the untimely death of his father. The farm has been in the family for more than 100 years. Later, we bought the farm where Barbara grew up.It consists of the traditional barn, granary, and associated buildings. The barn has the thick masonry walls that hold the coolness of the winter far into the summer.
We grew ginseng for several years and also grew goldenseal and garlic. For many years we looked for the right animals to enjoy the beautiful rolling fields, lush grasses, and small stream that runs through our land. Then, our son read an article in a prestigious investment magazine describing a unique "huggable investment". He called us to describe this animal called the alpaca.
We carefully researched this investment potential by surfing the Internet, making many phone calls, and visiting several farms. The friendliness and openness of the breeders impressed us.
We fell in love with a dark brown Peruvian suri named Eva and a white Peruvian suri named Potentella. We bought the two pregnant females in February of 1996 and had our first cria (that's a baby alpaca) in March 1996. We've had many crias since then. Barbara refers to them as "her girls".
During that time we thought about a name for our quest. Our farm is located on the corner of Falcon Drive and 44th Avenue. Thus, the name FalconQuest.
Barbara has learned how to produce amazing products from the alpaca yarn. She makes sweaters, scarves, caps, mittens, afghans, and various other garments. Many of these are made to order for people that have been exposed to the unusually soft and warm alpaca items and want more either for themselves or to give as gifts.
